We admire and have installed more complex HVAC controls, such as direct digital controls (DDC) but they are relatively expensive to install, and require experts to program and re-program. We find programmable thermostats to be a simpler, less expensive solution in most circumstances.
Next most common and easy to solve problem: insulation and heat loss through windows. This is hardly surprising, but we continue to push for easier and less expensive solutions.
For example, many older facilities have masonry walls, and these are difficult to insulate with conventional methods. We’re trying “foundation board” (basically Styrofoam) cut to fit and applied directly to the masonry walls; it’s inexpensive but not fireproof, which means it needs to be covered with 1/2″ plasterboard. We’d love to find a one-sheet solution that is insulating, fireproof, and easy to finish with a coat of paint. We’re also using thin plastic in sheets to cover old and non-standard windows.
